I'm a VSO for DeKalb County Illinois - I'm trying to find out information for one of my veterans who was assigned to the 260th Trans Co in Thailand from 1970-71.  If anyone has any information about the unit & info on trips into Vietnam, I would greatly appreciate it.  My e-mail address is tanderson@dekalbcounty.org

Hi men of the 313th Trans Company:

After over 40 years of only having a memory of my time in Bangkok serving as a Reefer Convey Driver, I went to Bangkok, Thailand last month in Dec, 2009 after 40 long years. I have since  reverted to my brith name of Marc Pacino, but while serving in both Vietnam, and Bangkok, (The Prince Hotel) I was L.R. Gonzalez (adopted name) I landed several weeks before Christmas, 2009 and stayed at the JW Marriott off of Sukumvut Rd.

The next day the first thing I did was ask the cab driver to take me to the Prince Hotel. You wouldn't believe it but although it's a bit run down, it's still in operation. I was even taken to my old room by the Management. The memories which came back to me were all there. I remember  my friends Wright King, Jr, Rick Harrington, and Gil Thorsen. I hope that one day they come to this site and sign in on the Guest Book.

I went to the Chau Phya River and had taken a boat ride, went to the old 313th Motor Pool and found that it is no loner there. I had remembered where my old driver lived near Thon Buri by the Klong and also by Lumpini Stadium. I know you won't believe this but I actually found my old friend and driver (Samboon)  still living there. We were both in our 20's  when we last met, but when I walked up to his home and he was sitting repairing a fish net, he looked up and immediately recognized me.

The tears we both had as we were remembering our time together in 1969 for over a year while I was stationed there. We may be a little fatter, (he is the same slim self), and less hair, but we immediately knew each other. Never was much for shedding a tear-except for that day. The memories we shared were unbelievable. I hope all of you who served in Thailand get the chance to go back. I have pictures which I am glad to share including the old Prince Hotel. Please contact me at MPac12@aol.com.

I loved the times I had spent there then, and loved the time I spent there last month. If anyone knows what ever happend to Wright King, Jr, Gil Thorsen, Rick Harrington, please email me. Wishing everyone the best for the New Year.

Marc Pacino

[I was with the 561st Engineering company in Korat in November, 1963.  In January, we moved down to Kanchanaburi to assist the 809th Battalion in building the Bangkok bypass highway.  I just returned from a 17 day trip to Thailand.  It sure has changed in 46 years.

I arrived in Camp Vayama in the fall of 1966 with the 499th Transportation Batallion Headquarters group.  Served there until the fall of 1967.  Worked in S2/S3 operations and later worked at the pier running the tide monitoring shack that was hanging off the end of the delong pier.  Used to travel up to pataya on weekend passes.  One of our guys got temporary duty there as a clerk typists so he always had has a place to stay.  I remember watching old movies outside with sheets of painted plywood proped against light poles.

Made lots of good friends but have lost contact with all of  them over the years.  There was Les Heugatter, Michael Walraven, Wendall Connally just to name a few.  I also new Sgt Jenkins and Major Howard, I actually drove for Major Howard for a while until my old chevy nova with the steering column on the right side kept hanging up in gear so he fired me as his driver.  Best thing ever happened to me.

I want everyone to take a look at our HR 2254 Agent Orange Equity Act of 2009 page. It has a current listing of sponsors (updated frequently). I have recently sent a letter to Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn encouraging him to get on board as a co-sponsor of this important piece of legislation. I ask everyone to do likewise with your state congressional representative. Thanks - Joe - Truck

Just dropped in to say the site is looking great. Thanks for adding me. My e-mail address is (samap2@charter.net. ) I was stationed at HHC 44Th Engineer Group, Korat.. and then came back in the second time living in the Prince Hotel for the last 6 months. I hope all is well. I have often thought about this "boots on the ground" thing! Does that mean if you had a stay over in route to our bases in Thailand and have a "pay stub" with: CZ, CZE would that be proof of tour of duty in Vietnam. Can we clarify that so it would help everyone.

Thanks to all who made this site possible. I was in Thailand from mid-January 1967 to late December 1967 and resided in tent city at Camp Vayama, near Sattahip. The official government record for my unit, the 229th TC, begins on April 30th, 1967 and ends the following year. Thirty-two years later, following two years of Congressional support, I was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and Campaign Ribbon.

We were an advisory group of less than 30 troops. We moved mountain tops, built and stacked bomb pads, extended the one and only portable runway at U-tapo AFB and moved bombs / naplm for the first 3 B-52s which showed up in April 67 from Guam. The raw natural beautiful culture of Thailand , its people and my relationships with my comrades, remain a special part of my life's experiences. I would like to hear hear from those who served in Thailand.
